The Trout

Accompaniment only:

Sing along with the class:

(adapted from Franz Schubert)

1. One day a young Franz Schubert
Walked by a cool running stream,
And saw a trout go flashing
As swift as a bright sunbeam.
The beauty of its qui-ck motion
Entranced him where- he- stood
Natures simple beauty made the world seem good. (repeat last line)

2. A few minutes later
He saw the fish— a—gain.
The trout had been caught— by a- fisherman.
The beauty of- the- fish was
No more to- be- seen.
And so he wrote this song — which for you we will sing. (repeat last line)

3. Now they're being threatened
The fishes and the stream.
Yes, we are cutting down all
The beautiful trees it seems.
The fishes and their homes are
Being washed away.
If we used less paper it might save the day
If we used less paper, the fish will shout "Hur- ray!"

4. Franz Schubert lived in Austria
Here in America the trout
Aren't the only fish we
Need to— care about.
The salmon are now threatened, and
If we don't do— anything
We may not have fish at all a— bout which we can sing. (repeat last line)

REPEAT verse 1.
