MICHEL'S VIOLIN

Prologue:

Michael Doucet Michael with his band "BeauSoleil"

Michael Doucet, a famous Louisiana Cajun fiddler, had just finished writing his song “Recherche d’Acadie” (Searching for Acadia). The song told of his ancestors being sent out of Acadia long ago from what is now Canada and how they came to Louisiana, Michael's present home.

He lay back in a hammock beween two cypress trees. Looking up he imagined the masts of sailing ships carrying his ancestors across the Atlantic so many years ago. One of those ancestors, was Michael's great-great-great -great-grandfather, named "Michel Doucet."

Michael knew that Michel’s own great-grandfather had sailed to Acadia from St. Malo, France in the1640’s. So in 1755, Michel's family had been in America for over 100 years. Cajun Fiddler, Michael Doucet, imagined what life was like for 8 year old Michel Doucet in 1755. Michel's family had lived peacefully under English rule for 40 years.

Michael knew - but of course in 1755 - his great-great-great-great grandpere Michel had no idea that things were about to change. . .
