
Michel looked over fields to the bay beyond. Then he saw them! Running home, Michel shouted,

Trois gros navirs sont arrivés
(Three bi-ig ships, ha-ve arrived.)
The ships flew the English flag. Acadians spoke French. France and England always fought. Last spring the British took everyone's boats and rifles. Papa wondered, "What will happen now?"
while Michael sang:
Nous irons sur leau, nous y prom-promener, nous irons jouer dans lîle.
(We will all sail out, sail out on the sea, well be playing on the island)
