Maman spoke. “No, it's just food!”

Beausoleil opened the case before Michel could object. “Doesn’t look like food!” laughed Beausoleil.

“Sorry, Maman,” apologized Michel, "But it's all we have of Papa!"

“Oh, Michel,” sobbed Maman. Holding Michel, she told their story.

“The British burned all our villages. You aren’t safe here," Beausoleil responded. "Tomorrow you'll go to Île St. Jean, where it's safer."
